It’s hard to not worry. Every morning we get out of bed with many part of news that points to the truth that our retirement investments have lost ½ their worth, we will be lucky whenever we are able to keep our responsibility another 6 months, and this our house has dropped 30% in value. Fear and cynicism are pervasive.
It’s not just a coincidence that holiday decorations and celebrations began a bit earlier this past holidays which whilst the economy is suffering movie ticket sales are strong. If you are in agreement with the politics of Barack Obama, his message of change and hope is really a message that folks are desperate to listen to, to believe our country can move beyond, and will also be led by a leader who believes in what can be done, not simply exactly what is.
Some will question the need for what does optimistic mean and faith and give that they are both operating out of naiveté. Rather, faith and optimism are to the human spirit what water and sunshine are to your garden. Both of these are important to our day-to-day vitality, resilience, and health. We understand today through numerous medical studies, that fear, worry, stress all impact our health negatively. All have a toll on our heart, our nervous system and our capacity for memory and critical thought. Simply put, how we opt to view the world impacts our longevity – the amount of days we certainly have left and the grade of those times – so…is the glass ½ full or ½ empty?
Finally, for all those of us who definitely are parents of kids, an additional thought or two…
• What economic information have our little ones been subjected to and have we determined or considered how much information is appropriate disclosure?
• What questions do our youngsters have and so are we open to their questions or will we close down because just taking into consideration the unknown causes anxiety in ourselves?
• Just what are we modeling for your children concerning how to live in instability and the unknown, about how to maintain healthy stress management?
• What can we gain knowledge from our kids whenever we feel our personal resilience suffering?
As parents, we now have a further responsibilities of ensuring that the little folks our way of life usually are not overexposed to the financial state around the globe (they may have some awareness as necessary and appropriate), that we are open to their concerns and fears, we provide the comfort and safety every child needs, and that we remember they may be always watching us – everything we do, everything we say, how you express, how you self-manage.
So, just how can we do something while remaining hopeful and optimistic within the face of unprecedented times?
1. Control that which is within our control: budget more conservatively, track spending, spend less, manage investments more closely – identify what actions your loved ones needs and drive them.
2. Determine what our tolerance is made for the hourly, daily, weekly inundation of crisis detail, within both the print and television news.
3. Identify our most helpful resource and acquire help (financial, coaching, counseling, legal)
4. Find methods to diffuse stress and tension whether it be a workout regime, regular social contact with friends and relations, reading, meditation, etc. How do you best recharge?
5. Rely on value of hope, optimism, possibility, and surround yourself with other people who also believe.
